Franciscan Focus Winter/Spring 2012 : Page 2Franciscan Alliance hospitals stand out with HEARTFELT CARE AND NEW ADVANCEMENTS Dear Neighbors and Friends, It may be chilly outside, but the Franciscan Alliance Northern Indiana hospitals continue to provide the warm, kindred care seen throughout our system for more than 135 years. As the president of Franciscan Physicians Hospital, I’m well acquainted with this cherished spirit. Our hospital is top rated for heart failure treatment and pneumonia care, with our sister hospitals being recognized for myriad clinical accomplishments in these areas and more. I’m excited to announce a few items Franciscan Alliance is bringing to Northwest Indiana in 2012: FRANCISCAN SENIOR PROMISE is a new senior health membership program aimed at providing seniors aged 55 and older benefits and resources to have fun, make friends and maintain a healthy lifestyle. FRANCISCAN OMNI HEALTH & FITNESS-CHESTERTON AND SCHERERVILLE is the new name of our health clubs, after a merger of the formerly named Omni 41 Health and Fitness Connection and Duneland Health and Wellness Institute. This merger provides our communities with a revived spirit through such offerings as new group fitness classes and much more. SPIRIT OF WOMEN, a new program our region hospitals are offering, will host the Day of Dance on Feb. 12. This inaugural event will give women a fun afternoon of cardiovascular exercise through dance lessons, along with cooking lessons, chair massages and more. Franciscan Physicians Hospital also looks forward to 2012. Our facility is upgrading all of its imaging equipment including MRI, CT and ultrasound. This upgrade includes the Siemens 1.5T Aera MRI, one of the most advanced MRI scanners available, which provides a comfortable setting and more detailed images. We also welcome the move of Dr. Rowland Mbaoma’s oncology infusion clinic from the Franciscan Hammond Clinic Specialty Center location to the hospital, in February. Franciscan Physicians Hospital and the Franciscan Hammond Clinic welcome Dr. Nikhil Pandhi and Dr. John Pomponi, both orthopedic surgeons, who boast a number of accolades in their professions. As leaders in the health care field and followers of the Franciscan Values in each of our facilities, we look forward to bringing continued peace, hope and joy to each of the wonderful people we serve. May God bless you throughout the New Year.
